AH-08 Dacia Apulensis
Apulensis occupied a leading position within the Three Dacias. The Apulum complex joined legionary, civilian, commercial, religious, and administrative activity. Roads connected it with mining districts, other towns, frontier sectors, and routes towards the Danube.
The province’s economy combined agricultural hinterlands, mining-related movement, army supply, and urban exchange. Its population included migrants and descendants of settlers from many imperial regions as well as local communities. Common higher command did not remove separate fiscal and local administrative responsibilities.
Third-century insecurity and the eventual withdrawal ended its official provincial establishment. The later south-Danubian Dacia did not preserve Apulensis’s territory; it transferred a broader provincial name into a different Balkan landscape.
