AH-05 Dacia Superior
Dacia Superior governed important parts of the occupied territory beyond the Danube while other districts received separate arrangements. Apulum’s military and civilian environment became especially significant. Roads, mining areas, colonies, local settlements, and frontier installations formed a provincial society dependent on secure southern connections.
The governor’s responsibilities combined military security with civil authority across a difficult upland landscape. Settlement from elsewhere in the empire created a varied population alongside indigenous inhabitants. Gold production and army supply linked local labour to wider imperial interests.
Subsequent division and the later organization of the Three Dacias replaced the earlier arrangement. Superior is therefore a dated institutional identity, not a permanent synonym for every inland Dacian district or for later Apulensis in exactly the same borders.
